DATO' HASSAN NAWAWI



Dato' Hasan Nawawi is the first Malaysians to cycle around the world in 2001-2002.
Nawawi said that in order to travel around the world on bicycles you must have four things.

First, he said you must have a strong mind in order to get through the tough times.

"If you want to do it and you say you can do it then you'll do it," he said.

Nawawi said that you can not let fear take you over.

"You must have a fearless mind. Courage will overcome fear," he said. "If we talk about fear we'll never move."

Secondly, Nawawi said that you need to have a lot of physical strength in order to travel approximately 100 miles a day.

He added that in order to travel through deserted spaces and foreign lands you must have tough skin and a strong stomach.

Dato' Hasan Nawawi was born on 9 December 1954 in Kampung Suak Petai, Manong Kuala Kangsar Perak. He is the sixth of ten brothers and sisters. He received his earlier education in SK Manong (1961-1966). Then he further his studies at SMK Sultan Tajul Ariffin, Manong (1967-1969) and SM Aminuddin Baki, Kuala Lumpur from Form Four to Form Six (1970-1973).

He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in History of International Relation from University Malaya in 1977. Subsequently he obtained Masters in Development Administration (MDA) degree from the University of Western Michigan, U.S.A in 1986.

He used to be a temporary teacher at SMK Sultan Tajul Ariffin, Manong (1974) and SMK Dato' Idris, Pantai Remis (1977). He joined the Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PTD) on 19 September 1977 and used to work in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (1977-1980). Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1980-1981), Public Services Department (1981-1984 and 1990-1993), District Office, Manjung (1993-1998), District Office, Port Dickson (1998-2000) and asa District Officer Kuala Kangsar from 01 April 2002.

His favourite sport is football. In addition he likes to climb mountains and go on cycling expedition
